Welcome to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Communications Center.
We are not a 911 center, although we do occupy the same room as Manatee County 911.
Manatee County Government runs the 911 Center and takes all police fire and medical
calls for service. The 911 Center dispatches fire and medical calls for service.
We work directly for the Sheriff of Manatee County and dispatch the Law Enforcement
Our Communications Center was newly renovated in 2000, replacing old metal workstations
where monitors were stacked over head. They were replaced with 3 (120 degree) large
radio dispatch consoles, 1 training console, (120 degree Radio/Call Taking equipped)
1 supervisor console, (120 degree Radio/Call Taking equipped) 3 call taker (90 degree)
consoles and 2 switchboard consoles. Each console has the ability to raise and lower
the counter top, keyboards and Monitors which move forward and backward to meet
each operator's individual needs.
Each console is equipped with 2 to 3, 21" color monitors, which operate on the windows
based Intergraph CAD system.
In 2002, the Communications Center received about 171,699 law enforcement calls
from the public with 56,066 resulting in report calls.
The center employs 43 personnel:
- 1 Director
- 1 Chief Dispatcher
- 4 Supervisors
- 4 Officers in Charge (OIC)
- 29 Call Takers/Dispatchers
- 4 Part Time Switchboard Operators
Communications Specialists work 12-hour shifts, which include a 15-minute shift
briefing prior to going on duty , two personal 15-minute breaks and an unpaid 45-minute
Current schedules run 6:45 AM - 7:00 PM & 6:45 PM - 7:00 AM
