Person/Suspect Info
For his efforts that saved the man’s life while simultaneously trying to calm and comfort seven frightened children, Dep. Renzo Caamano is awarded MCSO's Deputy of the Year.

On April 24, 2019 after working his regular shift and completing a special detail with the Special Response Team, Deputy Renzo Caamano was stopped on his way home by a large group of children in Bradenton. The children were screaming that their father had died.

While he was parking his vehicle, he saw a neighbor go inside the residence to check on the man who was found slumped over in a chair. Dep. Caamano and the neighbor placed the man on the floor, and Dep. Caamano quickly discovered the man did not have a pulse and was not breathing. He radioed for EMS and started chest compressions while also trying to calm the children who were running around screaming in fear.

He explained to the children their dad was going to be okay and asked them to go outside and listen for the ambulance, and when they saw the lights to let him know. EMS arrived to continue the life-saving efforts and once he had a stable pulse, the man was transported to the hospital.
