Volunteer Component

Who We Are

Volunteers serve the Manatee County Sheriff's Office in a wide range of capacities donating their time serving in a variety of positions.

What We Do

  • COP SHOP - Handle sales transactions and maintain inventory in "COP SHOP" store.
  • Clerical Support - General office duties in a variety of sections (filing, typing, data entry).
  • Communications/Dispatch Assistance - Update our business 24-hour key holders; perform data entry into our CAD program; switchboard and phone call assistance.
  • Victim Advocate/Senior/Disabled Resource Specialist - Assists those who have been victims of crime. Provide emotional and judicial support, and assists with compensation and resource referrals.
  • Investigative Aid - Assists investigators with call backs, logging and tracking case paperwork.
  • VCSA - Assist patrol deputies with minor incidents. Assist other entities throughout the agency with different tasks and operate a VCSA Sheriff's Office Vehicle.
  • Direct Service Aids - Assist with the care of children that have been sheltered due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. Assist investigators with supervision and coordinate appointments for children to receive assistance.
  • Special Program Assistant - Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with recruitment; coordinate special events; work with community and/or business liaisons.
  • Public Information Assistant - Coordinate current events for public relations. Research incidents and needs of the community. Assist in creating written, audio and video materials.
  • Specialized Units - Volunteers with specialized experience who can offer their services in specific units, (i.e.: Agriculture, Mounted, Marine and Religious (Jail). Join our Reserves if you are certified in law enforcement

Requirements

Volunteer Must successfully complete the process described below Volunteer must be 18 years or older and a resident of Manatee County

Selection Process

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office utilizes volunteers working along side department personnel who undergo an application process similar to that used when hiring department employees. Among the process but not limited to are:

Application Interview Polygraph examination (depending on position) Background investigation

Work Schedule

Positions are available primarily during business hours Monday -Friday with some opportunities varying by position and individual needs. You may volunteer as much time as you want. There are no mandatory number of hours.
